This week we were planning for our astrophotography trip to Lake Cuyamaca. Although I am not going to be able go camping I am helping my group with the prepping for the trip. HitlistOur group is planning on taking landscape astrophotography photos which include the Milky Way Galaxy. Take a look at the link to see how we plan on taking the shot.

This week we began reading chapters from the book 'Light' and composed a writing piece using information from the section to show how wonder and curiosity can lead to great things. In chemistry we took a deeper look at what is happening in the epoxy process, and a little bit of the basics of organic chemistry. Also I finally got my landscape photo printed on the metallic paper and ready to be epoxied! Humanities;'Wonder and Curiosity' writing piece draft 2 Chemistry;'Chemistry of Epoxy/Polmerization' Printed landscape photoThis week most people finally finished all processing of the landscape photo and some photos were even printed and tested on with our epoxy cover. Our photo's look really nice and very professional once they are printed on the metallic photo paper and given a glossy cover, but we have been running into some problems with the epoxy. Too many bubbles and dust imperfections are appearing so we are looking into buying better quality epoxy. Our class was also very lucky to have gotten a spot in the Liberty Public Market to display and sell our beautiful work. Humanities;Q; What role does each step play in the creation of a beautiful photo Step 1- The Photo This step is arguably the most important of the 4 steps. You must start off with an engaging photo that not only appeals to others, but most importantly to you. Its best to capture something or someplace that you personally like and that you are going to be excited about processing and printing. There are many techniques in taking a nice photo which includes positioning, exposure, contrast, resolution etc. All of these are a big factor in making your photo look pretty and professional. Step 2- Processing Once you have your good looking landscape photo, you then take that photo and process to make it look 100 times better than the raw image. By processing you can make certain colors pop and bring out elements in your photo that may have not been as vibrant in the original photo. This step is also very important because proper editing can make or break a photo. Step 3- Printing on metallic paper This step is taking your photo that is all done being processed on the computer and putting it on paper. The metallic paper looks really nice and gives the photo a cool shiny look to it. Its also important to have good, high quality ink so when printing all of the colors appear as vibrant as they should. Step 4- Epoxy Coat This is the last and final step in getting a beautiful photo. This seals the photo so that the condition is preserved and the photo will not be harmed by the regular wear and tear. The epoxy not only keeps the photo safe but it gives it a nice glossy finish Chemistry; What is the relationship with light and photography?
A photo is captured light. Once you take a photo and put it into processing you are manipulating the light by changing the exposure, contrast etc. Photography is all about manipulating light. -Why is it important to frame and exhibit work? By framing and exhibiting work it gives the artist a chance to put themselves out there for others to critique and comment on their work. Also displaying your work provides the artist with a sense of satisfaction to see their finished product up on display. This week everyone was working hard on their jobs for our project. This week was basically all about our jobs and work time for the project. On Thursday a group of us biked to Sunset Cliffs/ Point Loma Nazarene University to take photos for our landscape photography unit. Project- Frame Making;Me and two other students in my group have been working hard to design and create frames fit our portraits from phase 1. We designed a few frames in adobe illustrator in the proper laser cutting template and then once it was all finished and perfect we could go to the laser cutter and cut out the frames. Since laser cutting is very time consuming we have only cut out two frames but have a few more designs to cut once we get back from break.
